Let’s be honest—frustration happens for all of us, young or old. Whether it’s work stress, traffic jams, or just one of those days when everything seems to go wrong, frustration can build up quickly.
But instead of letting it take over, try these seven ways to deal with frustrations to bring yourself back to a state of calm and control. We know it is not easy, but sometimes, we need to take action to overcome this. You can do it!
7 Ways to Deal with Frustration
1. Take 10 Deep Breaths
When frustration hits, your body tenses up and your mind races. The quickest way to hit pause? Deep breathing. Inhale through your nose, hold for a few seconds and exhale slowly through your mouth. This simple trick helps slow your heart rate, relax your muscles, and clear your head. It’s like a mini reset button for your emotions.
Side Note: This is one of the simplest ways to overcome many things, but many fail to do so in times of need. So, when you’re frustrated, step back and remember about 10 deep breaths.
2. Shake It Off (As Taylor Swift said)
Taylor Swift had the right idea—sometimes, you must shake it off! Stand up, stretch, and wiggle. Shake out your hands, roll your shoulders, and remove that built-up tension. Moving your body, even briefly, can help release stress and instantly lighten your mood.
Side Note: Some of us may not know why Taylor Swift is, but the above is reasonably practical and could work for some of us.
3. Walk It Out
Feeling frustrated? Step outside and take a brisk walk. Physical activity gets your blood pumping and helps your brain switch gears. Plus, fresh air and a change of scenery can work wonders. With each step, imagine leaving your frustration behind. You’ll return feeling refreshed and ready to tackle whatever comes next.
Side Note: Busy schedules mean there is no time for anything, but there is—only if you make time for yourself and take action. You can make time for the mall or a cafe, why not sacrifice just a tiny portion of that time to better yourself?

4. Zoom Out and Get Some Perspective
When frustration takes over, it’s easy to get stuck in the moment. But ask yourself: “Will this matter in a week? A month? A year?” Chances are, the answer is no. Taking a step back helps put things into perspective, making it easier to let go of what’s bothering you.
Side Note: Some may say it’s easier said than done, but if you really want to pull through, it will be wise to listen to your positive self. Don’t let the negative self take over.
5. Ground Yourself in the Present
Frustration often pulls you into a spiral of negative thoughts. Bring yourself back to the now with a simple grounding exercise. Try this: Feel your feet on the floor, notice the temperature of the air, or listen to the sounds around you. Focusing on the present moment helps break the cycle of frustration and brings a sense of calm.
Side Note: At Green Daun, we have been telling many of our customers about grounding, but people always have all sorts of excuses, like no time or in the left year, out the right ear. If you want to take action, grounding is one of the best techniques.
6. Talk It Out
Sometimes, you need to vent. Call a friend, text a family member, or chat with a coworker. Talking things through can help you process your feelings and gain a fresh perspective. Plus, a little support from someone who understands can go a long way in making you feel better.
Side Note: We know that we Asians are very reserved about talking to friends or family as it is a sign of weakness, but honestly, this is one of the best ways to release by telling someone. Often, it’s better to talk to someone you do not know.
