Where to Buy Gongs in Malaysia

Chau Wing Gongs Malaysia

In this article, we would like to share where to buy gongs in Malaysia, as it is quite challenging to find these incredible sound instruments that both musicians and sound healing practitioners use.

Gongs are primarily used for Gong Baths, which offer inactive meditation, where you “bathe” in the healing vibrations of sound. It is said that these types of healing can help with relaxation, emotional release and pain relief.

Where to Buy Gongs in Malaysia

Before continuing, this article is written for the Sound Healing Gongs, not the Gamelan Gongs or other types used for music. We sell suspended gongs hung on metal or wooden frames and struck with a felted mallet.

You can now pre-order and buy sound healing gongs from Green Daun, but we only have display stock available; therefore, you need to pre-order once you have tried these Chau or Wind Gongs in our new age shop.

Generally, several types of gongs are used for sound healing and baths: the Chau Gong or the Wind Gong. The person needs to know which gong is suitable for use. Since February 2024, Green Daun has started Gong Sound Healing sessions in Malaysia, which are private sessions for two to four people only.

For those who would like to inquire, please visit our shop and leave your contact as once we start any gong healing sessions in Malaysia, we will update you. And just so you know, several types of sound healing techniques are available in the market.

In Malaysia, all of this is still considered new; therefore, people are just getting into the Tibetan or Singing Bowl sound healing classes and workshops. In actually fact, we are still considered far from other developed countries.

Sadly, this lack of knowledge and experience has created many inexperienced practitioners who attend one class or workshop and start conducting their courses without the experience required.

How Much is a Chau or Wind Gong in Malaysia?

These gongs are all imported into Malaysia as they are not made here. The only gongs made in Malaysia are the Gamelan Gongs, which are used mainly for music. Sound healing or sound bath gongs are all imported from Europe or China.

A standard 24″ inch (60cm) Chau Gong can cost anywhere from RM5,000 and above, while a similar-sized Wing Gong can cost around RM8,000. Again, these are just two popular gongs that most sound healers use.

When you buy a Chau Gong set, it comes with a metal stand, a wooden mallet and rope to hold the gong on the stand. This is a set; therefore, the prices include all of it. Some websites sell just the gongs, and you must buy additional accessories.

This makes things confusing for beginners, who may see a cheaper alternative, but only to find out the stand and mallet are not included, and the shipping is extremely expensive, hence, why some of our customers prefer to come to our new age shop and see the actual products.

What is the Chau Gong used for?

The Chau Gong is used in different genres of music, especially in symphony orchestras, but it is also used a lot in sound baths and sound healing practices. Chau Gongs are also known as Tam-Tam gongs and differ from Wind Gongs. It dates from the Han Dynasty when it was used for spiritual drumming, large meetings, and announcing the procession of important people.

Our gongs are sourced from reputable gong makers in China and Europe, which produce actual, soulful sounds when struck and are perfect for enhancing meditation and sound therapy practices.

Chau Gongs also differ in shape from the Wind Gongs because they have a rim around the outside edge, with a distinctive “target” appearance or bullseye. Playing the gong in the centre or bullseye produces a strong, focused, deep tone. As you move off-centre and toward the edge of the gong, high overtones and the natural crash sounds are activated.
