Bazaars in Kuala Lumpur

This is a compilation for the many bazaars in Kuala Lumpur to explore on weekends if you want something different to do here. Created by Green Daun, we have been visiting a number of these bazaars in KL over they years to see what is being sold.

The bazaars in KL are usually found in shopping malls or special event areas. There is no one place where you will always find a permanent bazaar like in Bangkok. These bazaars ten to take place over the weekends at various locations around Kuala Lumpur.

For some strange reason, it is quite hard to find lively bazaars in the city area of Kuala Lumpur, namely around Bukit Bintang or KLCC area. From what we know, it simply cost too expensive for any bazaar organizer to try  to create one in these popular areas.

However, there are numerous other bazaars in Kuala Lumpur which you an check out on weekends, and they are as follows;

Publika Bazaar

1. Publika Bazaar – One of the most popular bazaars in Kuala Lumpur takes place at Publika Shopping Mall, about 15 minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur City Center. The bazaar happens almost every weekend and is usually organized by different organizers.

Normally the Publika bazaar is held on Saturday and Sunday, but different organizers will have different set of days where some may do it for four days from Thursday till Sunday. At times, they also have an outdoor bazaar at The Square of Publika.

Mont Kiara Bazaar

2. Mont Kiara Bazaar @ Fiesta Thursday at Mont Kiara -This is one of the pioneer bazaars that catered to the expatriate market that lives all around the Mont Kiara and Sri Hartamas area on Kuala Lumpur.

The Mont Kiara bazaar actually started around 15 years ago, but over the years, it fizzled out and is now popular with the Thursday bazaar at the fountain area and near McDonald’s.

Expect more international and local food stalls here, and it is said to be one of the best food bazaars of all time. There are other vendors that sell jewelry, plants, toys, clothes, books, soaps and other items.

Craft Army Bazaar TREC KL

3. TREC KL Craft Army Bazaar – This night bazaar takes place at TREC KL, the all-in-one lifestyle and entertainment zone of Kuala Lumpur. The bazaar also goes by the name of Craft Army Artisan Market, and is known as the Kuala Lumpur Night Bazaar.

You will find a mix and match for lifestyle products, accessories, bags, phone cases, organic food, vintage stuff and many other items.

The bazaar is located along The Alley, an area at TREC where there are fringe performances during the night bazaar. Usually there are anywhere between 15 to 25 vendors that participate at this event.

4. Desa Park City Waterfront Bazaar – A very tight community in the Desa Park City area, there are bazaars going on during weekends which is held at the main shopping hub here.

The Desa Park City bazaar takes place in the outdoor and covered area here, and offers general consumer items for sale. Occasionally you may see something different being sold.

Arkadia Bazaar Desa Park City

5. Arkadia Bazaar at Desa Park City – A new bazaar that only launched in 2018 is found at the all new Plaza Arkadia lifestyle center of Desa Park City, in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.

This new food and entertainment area promises a very modern lifestyle concept with a mix of cafes, restaurants, coffee joints and other retailers including an anchor tenant, which is the Village Grocer supermarket.

The bazaar is not a weekly event here, thus it takes place perhaps once a month. At times, there may be other charity bazaars organized by third party companies.

KL Gateway Bazaar

6. KL Gateway Mall Bazaar – This is one of the new malls that opened near Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur and does not always have a weekly bazaar. From time to time, there may be a bazaar that happens in the main courtyard area.

When there is a bazaar, you will find vendor selling art, clothes, kids items, food, accessories, craft products, terrarium plants, soap and many other items.

Hartamas Mall Bazaar

7. Hartamas Shopping Center Bazaar – Located in the Sri Hartamas area, this local community shopping mall caters to the residents around the Desa Hartamas area of Kuala Lumpur.

Hartamas Mall is small two floor shopping center and on occasions, there are bazaars held on the ground floor, and sometimes for as long as 10 to 14 days.

However, the bazaars are usually on a smaller scale and happens rarely. Perhaps once a month or once every two months, and organized by different companies. You will find the regular common items like essential oils, soaps, clothes, accessories, food and so on.

8. Riuh Bazaar – Aiming to emulate the famous Bangkok lifestyle bazaars, Riuh Bazaar has almost achieved it, however this bazaar only takes place once a month at APW Bangsar.

The old converted printing warehouse called APW or Asia Printing Works has been converted into an event space, and Riuh Bazaar organizes their events here.

The organizers are quite picky on who they select, hence you can expect more quality vendors compared to your regular bazaar vendors. They also balance the bazaar with a good mix of craft, food, workshops and live music at a stage area.

Riuh also organizes pop up bazaars, and the last one being held at the Good Vibes Festival at The Ranch Gohtong Jaya in Genting Highlands on the 21 and 22 July 2018.

Sunny Side Up Market

9. Sunny Side Up Market KL – One of the seasonal bazaar organizers, meaning they usually run special bazaars for festive seasons or special occasions in Kuala Lumpur city.

Called Sunny Side Up Market, this is a bazaar that takes place at Slate at the Row in Kuala Lumpur, which is at the Heritage row in KL.

The bazaar showcases a more refined vendor selection and you can find just about everything lifestyle like soap, clothes, jewelry, journal accessories, candles, bohemian stuff and so on.

Organized only a few times a year, this very lifestyle market tends to attract a younger Kuala Lumpur audience, and at the famous Heritage Row next to the Sheraton Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

Conclusion

There may be other bazaars that take place at some of the new shopping malls in KL, but they are not permanent or happen once in a while. These are not included in this list.

We at Green Daun, used to participate at bazaars from as early as the year 2000, when they were relatively unknown the the general consumer markets.

Over the last 20 years, the bazaar scene has changed in Kuala Lumpur, and there are even more bazaars found at many places nowadays.

We have our own retail boutique craft shop called Green Daun, but from time to time, we still take the initiative to visit the many bazaars in Kuala Lumpur. Not that we want to participate, but as bazaar lovers, we just enjoy visiting them.
